"In Flanders Fields" was written by John McCrae, m.d. the day after his best friend was killed in World War I. The "Great War", the "War to End All Wars". The first two (2) stanzas are pastoral in nature. Suddenly, we hear a rousing call for recruits and replacements...Right after the Service at Grace Dart today, a Philipino woman started singing"O, Canada" (our national anthem). Well, no one--including RHOnda--knew all the words to the first stanza of this bilingual anthem. 'Not surprised!! We Canadians are so different from our dear, southern neighbours in that way...
